Originally Kinney Lodge, built by F.S. Kinney, a cigarette manufacturer, c. 1895 as a private home. In 1908 the 30-room mansion was purchased by A. Joy, who remodeled it to be used as a hotel. Mr. Joy had an affinity for Ritz Carlton hotels, thus its new name. Later it became the Dunes Carlton. The hotel was durable in its construction, and served as a hotel until 1968 when it was torn down. There is now an empty ocean view lot where the hotel once stood.
