Gansett Days September 18 – 20

Gansett Days are taking place September 18 – 20. This is a weekend full of wonderful events celebrating this great town.  Thanks to Narragansett Parks and Recreation for organizing this event!

Tents will be set up on the town green (aka Gazebo Park) starting Friday evening, all day Saturday, and until about 3:00 pm on Sunday.  Visit the Narragansett Historical Society at one of these tents, and please try to attend one or more of these other NHS events:
Saturday, September 1910 am till about 11:30 A Scroll Up Central Street – with local historian, John Miller – Free
A PowerPoint presentation and will be held at The Towers, 35 Ocean Road, 3rd floor.

Saturday, September 1910:30 till about noonHistory of the South Ferry Area with local historians Wayne and Bernice Durfee – Free
This is a talk and a walk with Wayne and Bernice.  Meet them at the URI Coastal Institute building, north side of South Ferry Road

Anytime – The Defenses of Narragansett Bay – self-guided driving tour prepared by Kathie Kelleher. – Free

Caution:  Some areas on this tour are a bit tricky underfoot – sensible shoes and awareness recommended. .

Open House at Kinney Bungalow at Sunset Farm – 505 Point Judith Road, Narragansett3:00 pm, Free
The Narragansett Land Conservancy Trust, in conjunction with the Narragansett Historical Society, will present an overview of the history of this lovely building.

 SPECIAL FEATURE:
Professional dancer Donna McGuire will interpret the spirit of Lucia Chase, founding member of the American Ballet Theater, its Artistic Director for many years, and she was also a principal dancer.  She was a lifelong summer resident of Narragansett.  She owned Kinney Bungalow from 1935 until 1986, and frequently brought many members of the ballet company to Narragansett in the summer.  They often practiced at Kinney Bungalow.
ABT is now one of the world’s leading ballet companies, and it is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
Sunday, September 203:00 pm to about 6:00 pmHistoric B&B to Historic B&B Tour – $5 members, $10 non-members
Start at the Tower House B&B, 46 Earles Ct at 3:00 pm, then stroll down historic Gibson Ave. to Druidsdream (The Richards B&B) at
144 Gibson Avenue.  Earles Court/Gibson Avenue area history, garden tours, plus light refreshments at both locations.
NOTE:  Time and space makes a limit of 50 people necessary, and you need to register either by email to us at nhs1888@aol.com or at our table at Gazebo Park.  (Check or cash only, payable at Tower House B&B.)
This is the first year for this event.  There are many other activities being hosted by many  organizations in town.  Don’t miss out!!
