Narragansett Historical Society and Friends of the Historic Narragansett Towers will hold a joint program on Tuesday, March 29, 2016
, starting at 7:00 pm, at The Towers, Narragansett RI, entitled “Interesting Incoming” – Free
This program consists of brief talks and displays of Narragansett historical memorabilia that is being donated respectively to the Narragansett Historical Society and to The Friends of the Historic Narragansett Towers.
Narragansett Historical Society board member and historian Professor Richard Vangermeersch has decided to donate his significant Narragansett collection of historical pamphlets, books, postcards and other Narragansett memorabilia, which will be on display during this event, and Professor Vangermeersch will be on hand to talk about his collection and answer any questions anyone may have. Among other items are a pamphlets regarding the Sea View Railroad, ” The Life Savers of Rhode Island” (which includes stories about the Coast Guard life-saving station across from The Towers, now the Coast Guard Restaurant, among others.) Also included is the South County Animated Magazine at Cosa Nostra from 1935, and four albums of historic postcards and other items.
Friends of the Historic Narragansett Towers will receive donations of numerous photographs of the Towers during the disastrous September 1900 fire which decimated The Towers. These new photographs are being donated by the Churnick family to The Friends of the Historic Narragansett Towers and will be on display during the event.
Brief remarks of appreciation and explanation will be held by both organizations prior to the informal time for attendees to review the donated artifacts.
This program is one of several planned in the near future as joint presentations by the Narragansett Historical Society and the Friends of the Historic Narragansett Towers.
